The boy, Stone, is an outsider among his friends. During a search for a missing friend, he sees a girl who had been abandoned by the others in the wilderness. When he returns to the factory where they live, he discovers that the girl has disappeared. Later, her body is found at the river bank. When questioned by the adults, he chooses to cover for his friends, but is subsequently tormented by guilt. This incident is quickly forgotten by everyone as if it has never happened.
